This strikingly aesthetic blue barite specimen is out of Cavnic, Romania, a source famous for its production of world-class blue barites coveted by collectors. The mine in Cavnic has been closed for decades, so no more of these are coming out of the ground. Traces of strontium in the crystal lattice cause the beautiful blue hue and this specimen is remarkable for its large size and spectacular luster, both characteristic of the Cavnic location.
