The Muonionalusta Meteorite was discovered in 1906 in Norrbotten, Sweden. It is classified as a fine octahedrite, type IVA. It fell to the Earth during the Quaternary period, about one million years ago. Primarily an iron meteorite, it has a concentration of about 8.4% nickel and trace amounts of rare elements – including gallium, germanium, and iridium. These specimens have been sliced and dipped in acid to show their crystalline structure, which is known as theWidmanstätten pattern.
