This unique earth specimen comes from the Cretacious-Tertiary (KT) boundary at Gubbio in Italy and contains iridium, a platinum element commonly found in meteorites. The iridium content at Gubbio led scientists to theorize that a large extraterrestrial mass impacted there at the time of the KT mass extinction.
