Isotelus is a species of trilobite from the Ordovican period approximately 504 to 438 million years ago and its fossil remains are commonly found in southwestern Ohio. The Isotelus trilobite is Ohio’s state fossil. Extinct trilobites belong to the phylum Arthropoda which contains today’s lobsters, shrimp, insects, scorpions, etc. This specimen was unearthed in Mt. Orab, Ohio.
