The name “dioptase” comes from Greek and references the visibility of the twin cleavage plains within the startlingly translucent, brilliantly emerald green crystals of this rare copper cyclosilicate mineral. This specimen from the DRC – one of only two locations worldwide where dioptase is sourced, the other being Namibia – boasts a glistening coating of beautifully gemmy crystals over the face of the matrix. A verdant visual treat.
