This sculptural specimen is one excellent piece of Mexican Desert Rose Selenite: a variety of Gypsum. Out of Naica near the famous Cave of Crystals, the matte, grainy texture and orange-to-beige color of this piece come from sand trapped within the crystals which from layers of “petals” in natural rose bud-like arrangements. A great example of its provenance.
