This combination specimen from the Pingwu mines in Sichuan, China atopMt. Xuebaoding (‘Snow Covered Treasure Mountain’) is famous for producing what are often considered to be the world’s finest specimens of both the scheelite and cassiterite species. This piece boasts a huge, complete, extremely lustrous cassiterite crystal on a small matrix of muscovite. The cassiterite is fully formed and striking against the lightly-hued petals of muscovite. While extremely rare, cassiterite is the primary ore of tin and one of the first metal alloys.
