This fossilized metacarpal (hand) bone dates back approximately 150 million years to the late Jurassic period and belonged to a Camarasaurus: an herbivorous species of sauropod dinosaur whose name means “chamber lizard” and references its chambered vertebrae. This excellent specimen was excavated in Big Horn Basin, Wyoming in the famous Morrison Formation on June 12th, 2008.
