This species of Dactylioceras ammonite (Dactylioceras commune) from the Lower Jurassic period is found in England in prehistoric concretions that must be broken open to reveal the approximately 180 million year old Orthoceras fossils inside. This specimen is the positive half of a broken-open concretion; the other half would reveal the negative impression of the ammonite.
