Ammonite and Belemnite Heart Dish

$29.00

This lovely heart-shaped dish – perfect for depositing precious items like jewelry on the bedstead – has been hand-carved from fossil-rich shale from the Atlas Mountains in South Morocco. This piece features genuine Belemnite and Ammonite fossils embedded within. These pale prehistoric remnants stand out in definition against the dark shale.

Ammonites and Belemnites are extinct species of Orthoceras, an ancient relative to the modern-day Cephalopod (squids or nautilus). Orthoceras fossilize over a limestone bed and have an estimated age of about 370 million years, hailing from the Devonian Epoch.

This ancient specimen turned modern décor makes a unique and historically significant gift for a loved one as well as a versatile collectible. As this is a natural item, it may vary slightly in appearance from the one depicted. Weight and dimensions are approximate. Stand not included.
