This tanzanite specimen showcases the deep blue-violet color that has made the gemstone one of the most sought-after discoveries. Tanzanite comes from a single, narrow mining district, the Merelani Hills, near Arusha in northern Tanzania. As a result, every fine crystal like this one represents a genuinely rare find. Two substantial crystal terminations rise together in this specimen. Their faces showing sharp vertical striations typical of well-formed tanzanite. Meanwhile, as light passes through the crystal, it reveals tanzanite’s signature pleochroism. The same stone shifts between deep indigo blue and rich violet-purple.
